Health and Wellness at LCHS
Health and Wellness is taught differently at LCHS. The course is a blend of physical education, CALM, HSS 1010, mentorship, coaching, officiating, outdoor education, and nutrition. The course offers a lot of choice allowing students to choose activities that best meet their interests. Each rotation runs two weeks in length with two different activities per rotation. Each health and wellness class will have three teachers, each having a vast and dynamic skill set to provide significant variety in rotational activities. At the beginning of each rotation students will compete in a mass games day and rotation signup. At the conclusion of each rotation will be a dimensions of health lecture for HW10 students and Rams Olympics planned and taught by HW20/30 students. In among these many activities will be lectures and activities pertaining to HSS 1010 and CALM. Students will complete two fitness tests per semester and work on goal setting to improve their personal fitness. Each student will have the opportunity to reflect and self-asses their C and D outcomes. Within the health and wellness courses there is ample opportunity for students to receive additional credits in a wide variety of areas. Choice and variety are vital components of our health and wellness programs success.
